Tribute to Tribulations

cooperscrossroad

Every person from the beginning of time has faced adversity. Organizations and businesses have tribulations that arise. Trauma and tribulations are as predictable as the sun rising. How we handle these is as unpredictable as New England weather.

Cooper's Crossroad is facing tribulations. Recently the board of directors made the hard decision to close Elm Farm. The animals are being rehomed to loving hands. The programs will go into temporary retirement. The brains and heart of the organization are reframing. The goal? To form collaborative alliances and build programs that will sustain our mission and vision.

In the moments of despair, when the waves keep coming it is easy to get caught in the currents. The sayings "where one door closes, another will open," "every cloud has a silver lining" or "there is no great loss without some small gain" seem to bounce off deaf ears.

With that said, I am a believer in the power of grief. I know tears can fix things. I have faith that in the end, it will all be ok. This has helped me enormously as the last few months unfolded.

Helen Keller wrote "When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us."

My eyes are currently wide open looking for those open doors.

All the lessons I have learned in courage, gratitude, forgiveness and compassion, with participants in the Farming For Resilience program, will support Cooper's Crossroad as it turns the wheel, searching for those openings, and keeping an open mind and heart towards the promise of a new future.

With gratitude to open doors,

Christina
