I live in a house with four dogs of various sizes. These dogs live a life most humans would envy with low pressure, plenty of exercise, rest, play, food... and TREATS. Treats for sitting. Treats for tricks. Treats for being cute. Treats for Christmas. Treats from the Easter Bunny. You get the idea. I am a believer in treats.
A pack favorite has a fantastic name: "Good-N-Fun" and evidence says they are just that - good and fun. Triple flavor kabobs with chicken, duck and liver. Yum Yum. These chew sticks are enough to make even the pickiest canine snacker wiggle and wag. All pack members know RIGHT where Good-N-Fun is stored and toothy smiles come out whenever the bag is accessed.
On a recent Sunday when many folks were resting or visiting friends, our local FedEx delivery person was pitching hard for my canine friends. For real. Due to an accident when ordering, FOUR CASES of GOOD-N-FUN were delivered to the doorstep. Nope not a typo. Let me repeat that. Four cases of Good-N-Fun delivered to my doorstep. Yes please.
Can you imagine Christmas morning as a five year old? The presents and treats are seemingly endless. The delights are everywhere. Oh ...and this is how the dogs felt as boxes upon boxes of Good-N-Fun came up the stairs. Four cases.
Good-N-Fun delivered by FedEx. I wish it were that easy to order up fun. Press "order", fill out payment information and several days later your package of fun arrives.
On reflection, maybe it IS that easy to order up fun.
Fun looks different to all of us. For these dogs, fun is a kabob chew stick. My case of Good-N-Fun might be the floaty feeling of being on horseback or watching the faces of Cooper's Crossroad participants as they learn the nuances of horse behavior.
Fun can be an exhilarating experience, a material object, a touch of peace, the curl of a smile. Fun will look different to all of us. Fun is available to all of us. Fun is a choice.
So what does your "Good-N-Fun" look like?
To all Good-N-Fun, Christina
