G.L.O.W.E.

Growing, Learning, and
Overcoming With Equines

The G.L.O.W.E. program, designed by Erin Ballard, is teaching and empowering participants on equine welfare and management as a way to provide them the tools

for a future career working with horses.

Our goal is to provide participants with the experiences and skill sets needed to continue their education and work with horses in a future career setting. In this program, we go beyond teaching about “just horses,” but convey what it means to work in a career involving skill sets like teamwork and communication.

During the 8-session G.L.O.W.E. curriculum, 6-10 participants ranging from 15-18 years in age are learning horsemanship skills such as feeding, haltering and leading the animals. An emphasis is placed on teamwork and cooperative skills in all tasks completed. Most of the skills the participants gain are based on equine management and welfare. This includes how to identify ailments, or understanding how horses communicate. An emphasis is placed on the importance of employee/employer relationships, teamwork, and problem solving. G.L.O.W.E. is overseen and taught by HERD-certified equine facilitators.
