Hello all,
And for those in New England, welcome steadily warming weather. I know we all look forward to the green glow on the fields and trees. Cooper's Crossroad has had another busy week. And we are grateful to add more ears on the subject! Thank you for taking the time to help raise awareness of adverse childhood experiences and trauma by reading this post. The week was high lighted by several moving moments. 1) Farming For Resilience - notable was the work once aagin done by Stacy Linton. She led the "field" by having a clear lesson plan for the children surrounding how horses express emotion. (Side note...would it not be nice to have that clarity in our life...a wonderful teacher telling us how to read emotion in others!). This was all done with illustration and drawing, on paper and with horses. She walked the students through this with clarity and kindness. It was a huge hit with the kids. The children also each rode in a lesson...solidifying steering of the horse with a handler first and then having the independance to do it on their own, if comfort allowed. For those who are unfamiliar with horseback riding, this is a FABULOUS and EMPOWERING experience for any human being. For all the volunteers (there are many) and the horses (kind rewards help) this is a looked forward to weekly program.
2) Monthly Informational Meetings - these will continue on April 25, 2019 7-8 Thursday evening at the Keene Public Library. The topic coming up is one I am particularly passionate about: "Finding the right therapist. How does therapy play into your recovery?" We are often so down, deressed, feeling worthless, filled with shame and hurt when we seek help in this way... how DO we navigate it? And how do we deal with the often negative backlash from the world around us? These will be discussed at that meeting. Please come. It will be worth the hour.
3) Our second annual Miles Towards Melting the Myth of Trauma 5K will be held on July 21, 2019. The point people on this endeavor have their "running shoes" on ready to gather sponsers and throw their all into the production of another successful 5K. I am excited as I hear that the fact we have a trail run is unusual, appealing and fun to the running public.
4) A NEW ADDITION TO OUR FUNDRAISING: Our Miles Toward Melting The Myth of Trauma 5K Pleasure Ride. This pleasure ride will take place July 28, 2019 Sunday. The ride will be organized into heats...for those inclined to move at different paces! The trail will replicate the 5K track the weekend prior ...more details to come soon!!
5) I am attending the Best Practices on Student Behavioral Health conference April 9 in Concord NH. I am thrilled to see sessions on trauma informed school practices at this conference and look forward to what I bring to Cooper"s Crossroad. 6) I speak April 16 to the MC 2 student body...looking forward to sharing what I can there. We have more life enhancing and fun seeds in the soil....but for now I will close with a great deal of gratitude that Cooper's Crossroad is reaching toward the mission of raising awareness of adverse childhood experences and trauma. Thank you all for helping us achieve that goal. Enjoy the beginnings of green, I am sure I will. All my best, Christina
